ABOUT THE MUSIC

Originating with the 2007 sound installation of the same name, Memory Like Water is a series of sound pieces for live performance which explores themes of memory, identity, and the passage of time. The sounds of water in motion are given voice by cross-processing with spoken word recordings of people recounting their earliest memories. The acoustics of these voices are imposed upon the watery sound sources.

Kristin Norderval will perform a multi-media work for voice, interactive audio processing and live video processing by video artist Katherine Liberovskaya. Tattooed Ghosts is part of FLUDD - Virtual Polar Icecap Meltdown, a larger work that is inspired by, and uses excerpts from, Dina Von Zweck’s monumental literary work of the same name. Here, melting icecaps are conceived of as a flood of waters releasing the Arctic’s profound secrets.

In the final three sections of this work, presented here as Tattooed Ghosts, myth, poetry and song trace the accumulation of ocean contaminants.
